User Experience Design (UXD) is clearly an area of increasing importance, going by the enthusiastic participation in the session organized by eWIT on Tuesday, 20 Nov 2012 at the Park Centre, Technopark.
The session was conducted by Sanu George (Senior Consultant – Usability Engineering, IBS). Sanu, an HFI Certified Usability Analyst, has 12 plus years of experience in UI, Usability and UX field.
User experience is a very relevant topic these days since we as customers are more vocal about our expectations about a product or a service. This area focuses not merely on the experiential aspects of the human-computer interaction and product ownership, but it also includes one’s perceptions of the practical aspects such as utility, ease of use and efficiency of the product.
The 90-minute session covered UX tools and techniques integrated into real world design and development processes. Also discussed were the advantages of adopting a user-centric design process in a project, the design processes that balance innovation with feasibility, integration of a user-centric approach into an existing Software Development Life Cycle, making a design intuitive, simple, delightful and more.
A skit performed by Renjusha S Varma & team (IBS) highlighting the importance of UXD, was well appreciated. There were UX teasers thrown at the audience as part of a quiz, which helped them win a few surprise gifts.
The varied audience included UX designers, engineers, project managers and also quite a few non-techies who were curious about UXD – from various companies in Technopark.
Amidst the pouring rain, we had participants join the first session conducted by eWIT. eWIT Trivandrum plans to co-ordinate programmes to enhance technical as well as business and life skills for the Technopark Community. As the first in the series, eWIT started with a Wellness Program conducted by Dr. Haripriya Naresh. Dr. Haripriya Naresh is an Integrated Therapist and a Mind-Body Wellness Coach.
Though Haripriya’s sessions generally involve a group of 25, she managed to reach out to a crowd of 40. The session on the “Man behind the Role” was informative and had the total attention of the audience. There was a diverse group varying from CEOs to Managers, technical and support team from various companies in attendance.
Mangement Programs with Dr. Haripriya Naresh can be transformational as she is able to work with individuals and help them reach their true potential. This translates to greater individual productivity and highly motivated team members resulting in an empowered and successful organization. Dr. Haripriya Naresh can be reached at email@example.com.
User Experience Design (UXD) and User Centric Design UCD are structured approaches that involve users at each stage of the design process – to develop a product or service that really works for the end user.
Sanu George, in his 90 min interactive session You Are Not the User, will give us an overview on these areas:
User Experience tools and techniques integrated into the real world design and development processes
Advantages of adopting a User Centric Design process in projects
Design processes that balance innovation with feasibility
A user-centric design approach that can be easily integrated into the existing Software Development Life Cycle
Making design intuitive, simple, and delightful
